Negri Powers To Victory in New Jersey
08/31/2008
(Millville, NJ)—Oswaldo Negri took full control of round 13 of the Rolex Sports Car Series season as he powered to a convincing race victory with co-driver Mark Patterson in the Supercar Life 250 this weekend driving the Michael Shank Racing Ford-Riley Daytona Prototype. The race win is the second for Negri with Patterson, and marked the second time the duo have won a debut race on a new track.
Patterson opened the race up from tenth on the grid, and was in the lead by the time the clock clicked over 30 minutes as Patterson took to the pits to turn the car over to Negri. That green-flag stop shuffled Negri back in the order, but he focused forward and was soon threatening for the lead after a strong pit stop from the Michael Shank Racing crew.
From there, Negri did the rest of the work, moving from third in the order up to take the lead just a few laps later. Despite forceful moves from a variety of challengers, Negri held off all comers to lead the final 45 laps and take the race win.
"This is amazing to get back to the top step of the podium again with Mark and Michael Shank Racing," said Negri. "It was a very hard race and I'm so happy to take another win. It was tough at the end of the race because there was so much pick up out there and the track was breaking up on some of the corners, so you had to place the car very carefully.
“I also sort of had to play cards with the cars behind to protect my position with the GT traffic and it ended up perfectly. I wasn't worried about anything on that last lap, I was just trying to work on the tires as much as I could before the restart and it worked out perfectly. I just focused forward and brought it home. We had a great start to the season with the pole at Daytona and then some setbacks so this feels fantastic and I can't wait for Miller."
